WELCOME TO THE SIPPICAN BAND ROOM
The philosophy of the Music Program at Sippican School is:
To expand each student’s musical education, demonstrate the benefits of consistent effort, instill the need for accountability and team work in each student, and to have FUN.
At Sippican School, every student is encouraged to give a solid try to playing a musical instrument. 95% of graduating 6th graders have been a part of the program at some time, and 85% of Sippican School students play for all 3 years. Bands practice at a grade level, and team work is a critical element to success. Students know their band will only sound as well as the student next to them is playing, so they encourage and support one another. All three grade level bands are pulled together to make the Sippican School Marching Band, which performs in the Memorial Day Parade. Often with up to 180 members, the Band has a local reputation for taking their roll in the parade very seriously, for looking good, and sounding great!
ENRICHMENT ENSEMBLES
Five different musical experiences are offered before school. Membership is determined by Hannah Moore (Instrumental Music Teacher) or Patty Richard (General Music & Choral Teacher). Speak directly with the teacher in charge of the group if you are interested in joining. Rehearsals begin promptly at 8AM. Students are dropped off at the bus loop and enter the school through the Band Room door. The groups for Band musicians are: Monday Jazz (1st year Jazz Band), Tuesday Jazz Band(Advanced Jazz Band), Festival Band meets Wednesdays, and Beginner Band (Grade 4 & 'Band-Aides' from grades 5&6) on Fridays. The Concert Choir is the select singing group which rehearses Mondays & Thursday mornings. Please check the relevant pages on this website for details.
A Band Family Meeting is scheduled for September 4 at 6:30 in the Band Room, or a ZOOM Meeting on September 5 at 6:30. Attend one or the other if you want/need all the details, as it is the best time to learn more about this years program and to sign up for Enrichment Ensembles.
