MEMORIAL DAY PARADE DETAILS
This is the only performance where all 4th, 5th & 6th graders perform together. At times, that has been close to 200 musicians!
The 3 Parade rehearsals are MANDATORY- I am especially pushy about attendance as students have very little experience marching, and we need to be safe!
REHEARSAL DETAILS: 8AM at Sippican School on: May 12(Monday),
May 16(Friday) & May 23(Friday).
Meet in the Band Room, and be ready to play with marching music and lyres by 8AM.
I must receive a note from a parent for missed rehearsals.
MARCHING UNIFORM Blue Sippican School Band Shirt, BLACK shorts, pants or skirt, and comfortable walking shoes. You may borrow or buy a band shirt from me. Shirts cost $20 – Make checks payable to: Sippican School Music Account. They will be available at the 4th Grade Concert on or any time in the band room.
MEMORIAL DAY – MONDAY – MAY 26, 2025
MEET: The Music Hall (corner of Cottage & Front Street), ready to play, by 8:30AM. Leave your case at home, in your car, or in the Band Room. The Parade steps off at 9AM sharp.
ROUTE: The PARADE starts with a ceremony in front of the Music Hall at 9AM. The band stands in formation on Cottage Street. We will travel NORTH on Front Street after the ceremony and march through Tabor Academy to Old Landing (next to Burr Bros. Boats & across the street from the Marion Sports Shop). We will stop marching and be positioned to be a part of a second ceremony at Old Landing. That concludes the Parade. Be warned that parking is hugely limited around Old Landing. My recommendation is to park behind Sippican School and make a walking circuit of the day.
RAIN-OUT PLAN: If the organizers call off the Parade due to weather, we will convene in the Multi-Purpose Room at Sippican School. The Veterans will conduct the ceremony, and the full band will participate. I will send out an email by 8:15 if we call it a rain-out.
Remember, this parade is serious and contemplative. The 4th of July is the ‘party’ parade, and a very different event. We have a serious piece of work to do in recognizing all the Americans who serve our country on Memorial Day. Come to rehearsals and the performance focused and ready!
